1. Insert ACOS from the Insert Function dialog

Entry: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Click the fx button in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  3. Search for ACOS in the Insert Function dialog.
  4. Select the function and click OK.
  5. Enter the required parameter in the Function Arguments dialog.
  6. Click OK to finish inserting the function.

Success Criteria

  • The selected cell contains an ACOS formula.
  • The formula returns a calculation result after the parameter is entered.
  • The formula can be edited or copied to other cells.

Tips While Using

  • Enter a numeric value as the parameter.
  • Keep the parentheses and separators in the correct format.

2. Type the formula directly in a cell

Entry: Worksheet cell or formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Type =ACOS(...) directly in the cell or the formula bar.
  3. Press Enter to confirm the formula.
  4. If you want to review parameter guidance, type =ACOS( and press F1 to open syntax help.

Success Criteria

  • The cell shows the ACOS calculation result.
  • The full formula remains visible in the formula bar.
  • The formula can be filled down or copied to other cells.

3. Review syntax and parameter guidance

Entry: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  2. Enter ACOS in the search box.
  3. Select the function and review the syntax: ACOS(number).
  4. Click the help link for the function to view more details.
