How-to Guide
1. Turn on Select & Translate
Entry: Review tab → Select & Translate
- Open a WPS Writer document.
- Click the Review tab in the top menu bar.
- Click Select & Translate.
- Confirm that the feature is turned on.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The document is ready for Select & Translate actions.
- Next action available: You can continue by selecting text and viewing translation results.
Tips While Using
- Environment: This feature requires an internet connection.
2. Translate selected content
Entry: Translate from the floating toolbar, or Task Pane on the right → Translate
- Select the word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph that you want to translate in the document.
- Choose Translate from the floating toolbar, or click Translate in the task pane on the right.
- View the translation result in the floating window or sidebar.
- Copy the translated text or insert it into the document if needed.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The translation result appears in the floating window or sidebar.
- Next action available: You can copy the result or insert it into the current document.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If no text is selected first, the translation entry may not return the intended content.
- Environment: Translation results may not load when the network connection is unstable.
3. Set translation languages
Entry: Translation window
- Open the translation window.
- Select the source language.
- Select the target language, such as Chinese or English.
- Run translation with the current language settings.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected language pair is shown in the translation window.
- Next action available: Future translations use the current language settings.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the source language or target language is set incorrectly, the result may not match your expectation.
4. Adjust more translation settings
Entry: ... icon at the top of the translation window
- Click the ... icon at the top of the translation window.
- Open the More settings panel.
- Turn Word Definition on or off as needed.
- Change the translation engine as needed.
- Adjust the font size in the translation interface as needed.
- View history sessions.
- In Translation Settings, turn Trigger translation when selecting text in file on or off.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The settings are updated based on your selection.
- Next action available: Later translations follow the new display or trigger settings.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you turn off the text-selection trigger option, selecting text will no longer trigger translation in that way.
