1. Start document comparison

Entry point: Review tab → Compare → Compare

  1. Open a WPS Writer document.
  2. Click the Review tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click the Compare drop-down button.
  4. Select Compare.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The Compare Documents dialog box opens.
  • Next actions: You can continue to choose the original and revised documents.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If no document is open first, you may not enter the full review workflow as expected.

2. Select documents to compare

Entry point: Compare Documents dialog box

  1. Select the Original document in the dialog box.
  2. Select the Revised document.
  3. Click More to adjust comparison options.
  4. Click OK to start comparing documents.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: WPS starts the document comparison process.
  • Next actions: After the comparison finishes, you can review the differences.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If the original and revised files are selected in the wrong order, the result may be harder to interpret.
  • Environment limits: Save both documents before starting the comparison.

3. Review comparison results

Entry point: Comparison result document

  1. Wait for the comparison to finish and open the result document.
  2. Review the differences shown as revision marks.
  3. Check the highlighted areas that show changed content.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Differences appear with revision marks and highlights.
  • Next actions: You can continue reviewing, accepting, or rejecting changes.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you only read the main body and ignore the revision marks, some differences may be missed.

4. Show source documents

Entry point: Review tab → Compare → Show Source Documents

  1. In the output document, click the Review tab.
  2. Click CompareShow Source Documents.
  3. Choose the display mode you need: Hide Source Documents, Show Original Document, Show Revised Document, or Show Both Original and Revised Documents.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The source document windows change according to the selected display mode.
  • Next actions: You can continue reviewing the original document, revised document, and result document side by side.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: When several windows are open, it is easy to confuse which document type you are viewing.

5. Merge comparison results

Entry point: Review → Accept / Reject

  1. Review the difference marks in the comparison result.
  2. Use Accept or Reject to process each change.
  3. Save the merged document.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Revision marks are reduced or updated as changes are processed.
  • Next actions: You can save the final merged result document.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you save too early without checking each change, unwanted edits may remain in the final file.
