1. Turn on Brush

Entry path: Review tab → Brush

  1. Open a WPS Writer document.
  2. Click the Review tab on the top menu bar.
  3. Click Brush to turn on Brush mode.
  4. Confirm that the cursor changes to a brush shape, then start drawing.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The document enters Brush mode and related brush tools appear at the top.
  • Next action available: You can continue by choosing a brush type, setting a color, and drawing.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no document is open, you cannot start drawing in the page area directly.
  • Environment note: Both mouse input and touch input can be used.

2. Choose a Brush Type

Entry path: Review tab → Brush → Brush toolbar

  1. Turn on Brush first.
  2. Check the brush toolbar shown at the top.
  3. Choose Ballpoint Pen, Highlighter, Watercolor Pen, Shapes, or Eraser as needed.
  4. Continue working in the document with the selected tool.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The current tool changes to the selected brush type.
  • Next action available: You can draw, mark, or erase with the selected tool.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If Brush mode is not turned on, the full brush toolbar will not appear.
  • Environment note: Different tools fit different markup purposes, so it helps to choose the tool before drawing.

3. Set Brush Color

Entry path: Review tab → Brush → Brush toolbar

  1. Turn on Brush and open the brush toolbar.
  2. Click the color selector.
  3. Choose a preset color, or use the color picker to select a color.
  4. Return to the document and continue drawing.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The current brush color changes to the selected color.
  • Next action available: New strokes appear in the updated color.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no drawing tool is selected first, the color change may not be easy to notice immediately.
  • Environment note: The color setting applies to new drawing content afterward.

4. Draw with Brush

Entry path: Document editing area

  1. Turn on Brush mode in the document.
  2. Move the pointer to the place you want to mark.
  3. Press and hold the left mouse button to draw on the document.
  4. Release the mouse button to finish one stroke.
  5. Repeat as needed to add multiple strokes.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Ink content appears on the document page.
  • Next action available: You can keep drawing, switch tools, or erase content.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not hold the left mouse button, a continuous stroke will not be created.
  • Environment note: Handwriting input usually feels more natural on touch-enabled devices.

5. Exit Brush Mode

Entry path: Review → Brush → Close, or press Esc

  1. After drawing, click the close control in the Brush area.
  2. Or press Esc to exit Brush mode.
  3. Confirm that the cursor returns to normal selection status.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Brush mode ends and the cursor returns to normal selection status.
  • Next action available: You can continue editing document text, selecting objects, or saving the document.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not exit Brush mode, dragging the mouse may continue to create strokes.
