1. Add Row Number

Feature entry: Page → Row Number

  1. Open the document you want to edit in WPS Writer.
  2. Click the Page tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click the Row Number drop-down menu.
  4. Select the numbering style you want and apply it to the current document.

Success Criteria

  • Row numbers appear on the left side of the document.
  • The numbers align automatically with the text lines.
  • You can continue editing the document without changing the numbering logic.

Tips While Using

  • Row numbers appear only in page view.
  • Content inside tables and text boxes does not show row numbers.

2. Switch Row Number Mode

Feature entry: Page → Row Number

  1. Open the document and go to the Page tab.
  2. Click the Row Number drop-down menu.
  3. Select one numbering mode: Continuous, Restart Each Page, or Restart Each Section.
  4. Review the document and confirm that the numbering matches your layout needs.

Success Criteria

  • The row numbers update based on the selected mode.
  • In continuous mode, numbering runs through the whole document.
  • In page or section mode, numbering starts again within the selected range.

Tips While Using

  • For long documents, confirm that page breaks or section breaks are already set correctly.
  • If the document structure changes, you can switch the numbering mode again.

3. Customize Row Number Settings

Feature entry: Page → Row Number → Row Numbering Options

  1. Click the Page tab.
  2. Open the Row Number drop-down menu.
  3. Click Row Numbering Options.
  4. In the dialog box, select Add row numbers.
  5. Adjust the related values as needed and confirm the change.

Success Criteria

  • The row number settings in the dialog box take effect.
  • The left side of the document shows the updated numbering result.
  • You can adjust the settings again later if the layout changes.

Tips While Using

  • Save the document before making layout changes if you want to compare the result.
  • In section-based documents, review the section setup together with the numbering result.
