1. Add Row Number

Entry: Page tab → Row Number drop-down menu

1. Open the document you want to edit.
2. Click the Page tab at the top of the window.
3. Open the Row Number drop-down menu.
4. Select the style you need, such as Continuous, Restart Each Page, or Restart Each Section.
5. After you select an option, row numbers appear along the left side of the page.

Success Criteria

• Interface result: Row numbers appear on the left side of the document.
• What you can do next: You can continue editing while the numbering remains visible.

Tips While Using

• The numbering style can affect the whole document or the current section, so confirm your layout needs first.
• Row numbers are easier to check in page view.

2. Customize Row Number Settings

Entry: Page tab → Row Number drop-down menu → Row Numbering Options

1. Open the document and click the Page tab.
2. Open the Row Number drop-down menu.
3. Click Row Numbering Options.
4. In the settings area, select Add row numbers.
5. Adjust the numbering style or related values as needed.
6. Confirm the settings to apply them.

Success Criteria

• Interface result: Row numbers update based on the new settings.
• What you can do next: You can keep editing the document while the numbering rules stay in effect.

Tips While Using

• Before changing settings, confirm whether you want the numbering to apply to the whole document or by section.
• If the document already uses sections, the numbering result may vary by section.

3. Remove Row Number from a Paragraph

Entry: Page tab → Row Number drop-down menu

1. Select the paragraph where you want to remove row numbering.
2. Click the Row Number drop-down menu under the Page tab.
3. Select Suppress for Current Paragraph.
4. Check whether row numbers no longer appear beside that paragraph.

Success Criteria

• Interface result: The selected paragraph no longer shows row numbers.
• What you can do next: Other paragraphs can keep their existing numbering settings.

Tips While Using

• This setting applies only to the currently selected paragraph.
• If no paragraph is selected first, the result may not match your expectation.
