How-to Guide
1. Open Chapter Navigation
Entry point: View → Navigation Pane
- Open WPS Writer and go to the document you want to review.
- Click the View tab at the top of the window.
- Click Navigation Pane.
- The chapter navigation panel appears on the left side of the document.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: A navigation area appears on the left side.
- What you can do next: You can switch tabs and click items to jump through the document.
Tips While Using
- If the window is narrow, enlarge it so the document body and navigation area are easier to view together.
2. Switch Between Table of Contents, Chapters, and Bookmarks
Entry point: Left-side Navigation Pane
- Open the Navigation Pane first.
- Check the available tabs in the left-side panel.
- Click Table of Contents, Chapters, or Bookmarks to switch views.
- Click an item in the current list to jump to the corresponding location in the document.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The list in the navigation pane changes when you switch tabs.
- What you can do next: Clicking an item moves the document view to the related position.
Tips While Using
- The bookmarks view is more useful when the document already contains bookmarks.
3. Show Headings in Chapter Navigation
Entry point: Home/style settings + View → Navigation Pane
- Select the chapter title text in your document.
- Apply an appropriate heading style, such as Heading 1 or Heading 2.
- Open Navigation Pane from View.
- Check the chapter view to confirm that the heading hierarchy appears.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: Text with heading styles appears in the navigation list.
- What you can do next: You can click a heading in the navigation pane to jump to that section.
Tips While Using
- Text that is only bold or enlarged without a heading style usually does not form a clear chapter structure in navigation.
