1. Set a Solid Color Background

Entry: Page Layout → Background

  1. Open the target document in WPS Writer.
  2. Click the Page Layout tab at the top of the window.
  3. Open the Background drop-down menu.
  4. Select a theme color, standard color, or another available background color.
  5. If needed, open More Fill Colors for more detailed color adjustment.

Success Criteria

  • The page shows the selected background color.
  • The document remains editable and can still be saved.

Tips While Using

  • You can refine colors with the palette, RGB values, or HEX values.
  • The selected background affects the current document page appearance.

2. Set a Gradient Background

Entry: Page Layout → Background → More Backgrounds → Gradient

  1. Open the Page Layout tab.
  2. Click Background.
  3. Open More Backgrounds.
  4. Select Gradient.
  5. Adjust one-color, two-color, preset, transparency, or shading style options as needed.
  6. Click OK to apply the setting.

Success Criteria

  • The page shows a gradient background.
  • Changes to the gradient style are visible after the setting is applied.

3. Set a Texture Background

Entry: Page Layout → Background → More Backgrounds → Texture

  1. Click the Page Layout tab.
  2. Open Background.
  3. Open More Backgrounds.
  4. Select Texture.
  5. Choose a built-in texture, or use another texture option if you want a custom file.
  6. Click OK.

Success Criteria

  • The page shows the selected texture effect.
  • The document content remains editable.

  • Texture backgrounds are useful for covers, invitations, and stylized pages.
  • Check whether the texture matches the page style before final output.

4. Set a Pattern Background

Entry: Page Layout → Background → More Backgrounds → Pattern

  1. Click the Page Layout tab.
  2. Open Background.
  3. Open More Backgrounds.
  4. Select Pattern.
  5. Choose the pattern you want from the built-in options.
  6. Click OK to apply it.

Success Criteria

  • The page shows the selected pattern background.
  • The page content remains visible with the pattern applied.

Tips While Using

  • Pattern backgrounds are more suitable for decorative pages than text-heavy pages.
  • Review print or export output after applying a strong pattern.

5. Set a Picture Background

Entry: Page Layout → Background → More Backgrounds → Picture

  1. Click the Page Layout tab.
  2. Open Background.
  3. Open More Backgrounds.
  4. Select Picture.
  5. Click Select Picture and upload a local image file.
  6. Click OK to apply the picture background.
  7. You can also use Page Layout → Background → Picture Background if that entry is available.

Success Criteria

  • The page shows the selected picture background.
  • The picture background is applied to the current document page appearance.

Tips While Using

  • Some background pictures and fill options are membership-related.
  • Low-saturation or softened images usually work better behind body text.

6. Remove a Page Background

Entry: Page Layout → Background → Remove Page Background

  1. Click the Page Layout tab.
  2. Open Background.
  3. Click Remove Page Background.

Success Criteria

  • The page returns to the default background view.
  • Existing document content is unchanged.

Tips While Using

  • After removal, the document returns to the default page appearance.
  • If other visual objects were added separately, review them one by one.
