1. Apply Preset Table Styles

Entry: After you select a table, open the Table Styles tab in the top menu bar and choose a style from the style gallery.

  1. Select the table range that you want to format.
  2. Open the Table Styles tab that appears after the table is selected.
  3. Click the style gallery or drop-down list to view available styles.
  4. Click the style you want to apply to the current table.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The table appearance updates to the selected style.
  • Next action: You can continue adjusting borders, shading, or other table formatting.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the table is not selected first, the Table Styles entry may not appear.

2. Adjust Table Borders

Entry: Table Styles tab → Borders drop-down menu → Borders and ShadingBorders tab.

  1. Select the table or cells that you want to adjust.
  2. Click the Table Styles tab.
  3. Click the Borders drop-down menu.
  4. Select Borders and Shading.
  5. Open the Borders tab.
  6. Adjust the border style.
  7. Click OK to apply the setting.

  • Common mistake: If only part of the table is selected, only that selection is updated.

3. Adjust Table Shading

Entry: Table Styles tab → shading-related menu → Borders and ShadingShading tab.

  1. Select the table or cells that you want to adjust.
  2. Click the Table Styles tab.
  3. Open the related menu and select Borders and Shading.
  4. Open the Shading tab.
  5. Set the color, pattern, and apply-to range.
  6. Click OK to apply the setting.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The target area shows the new shading color or pattern.
  • Next action: You can continue editing borders or apply another preset style.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the apply-to range is incorrect, shading may appear in only part of the table.

4. Clear Table Styles

Entry: Select the table range → Table Styles tab → Clear Table Style.

  1. Select the table range whose formatting you want to clear.
  2. Open the Table Styles tab in the top menu bar.
  3. Click Clear Table Style.
  4. Confirm that the table returns to a transparent table look.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Applied table styles are removed.
  • Next action: You can apply another preset style or continue with manual formatting.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the target table is not selected, the clear action will not affect the intended area.
