How-to Guide
1. Insert a common symbol
Entry path: Insert > Symbol
- Place the cursor where you want the symbol to appear.
- Click Insert on the top menu bar.
- Click Symbol.
- Choose a common symbol from the list to insert it.
Success Check
- On screen: The selected symbol appears at the current cursor position.
- Next action: You can keep typing or insert another symbol.
Notes
- Common issue: If the cursor is not placed first, the symbol may appear in the wrong location.
- Environment note: The same symbol can look different in different fonts.
2. Open More Symbols and browse by category
Entry path: Insert > Symbol > More Symbols
- Place the cursor at the target location.
- Open Insert and click Symbol.
- Click More Symbols to open the symbol window.
- Switch fonts and subsets to narrow the character list.
- Browse until you find the special character or Unicode character you need.
Success Check
- On screen: The symbol window opens and shows character lists for different fonts or subsets.
- Next action: You can select a character and insert it.
Notes
- Common issue: If you only check the default font, you may think a character is unavailable.
- Environment note: Some characters display correctly only when the related font is available.
3. Insert the selected symbol and close the window
Entry path: Insert button in the symbol window
- Select the character you want in the symbol window.
- Click Insert.
- Confirm that the character appears in the document.
- Click Close to exit the symbol window.
Success Check
- On screen: The symbol is inserted into the document, and the symbol window can be closed.
- Next action: You can continue editing, save the file, or open the symbol window again.
Notes
- Common issue: If no character is selected before you click Insert, the expected result will not appear.
- Environment note: When the file is opened on another device, symbol display can change if the required font is missing.
