1. Set alignment from the toolbar

Entry: Home tab → alignment buttons

  1. Select the paragraph that you want to format.
  2. Click the Home tab.
  3. Choose the alignment style you need: Left, Center, Right, Justify, or Distributed.
  4. Check whether the paragraph layout has updated.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The selected paragraph changes to the chosen horizontal alignment.
  • Next step available: You can continue editing text or switch to another alignment option.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not select the target paragraph first, the change may not apply to the intended content.
  • Environment note: Toolbar buttons and shortcuts both work at the paragraph level.

2. Set alignment from the Paragraph dialog box

Entry: Home tab → arrow icon in the lower-right corner of the Paragraph group

  1. Select the paragraph that you want to format.
  2. Click the Home tab.
  3. In the Paragraph group, click the arrow icon in the lower-right corner to open the Paragraph dialog box.
  4. In the Indents and Spacing tab, find the Alignment drop-down list.
  5. Select the alignment option that you want.
  6. Click OK to apply the setting.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The paragraph alignment updates to the selected option.
  • Next step available: You can continue adjusting other paragraph settings in the same dialog box.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you close the dialog box before clicking OK, the setting will not be applied.
  • Environment note: If the document is read-only, paragraph formatting may not be editable.
