1. Set a Tab Stop

Entry: Home tab → Tab Stop button

  1. Select the paragraph where you want to add a tab stop.
  2. Click the Home tab.
  3. Click the Tab Stop button.
  4. Enter the tab stop position, then choose the alignment and leader.
  5. Click Set to add the tab stop.
  6. Click OK to finish.

Success Criteria

  • The selected paragraph now uses the new tab stop position.
  • When you press the Tab key, text moves to the expected position with the selected alignment.
  • If a leader is set, the leader style appears as expected.

Tips While Using

  • Select the target paragraph before opening the tab stop settings window.
  • If the document already has complex formatting, review the current tab stops before adding new ones.
  • If spaces are used instead of tab stops, alignment may become inconsistent later.

2. Remove a Tab Stop

Entry: Home tab → Tab Stop button

  1. Open the Tab Stop dialog box.
  2. Select the tab stop that you want to remove.
  3. Click Clear to remove one tab stop, or click Clear All to remove all tab stops.
  4. Click OK to save the change.

Success Criteria

  • The selected tab stop is removed from the list, or all tab stops are cleared.
  • The paragraph uses the updated tab alignment behavior.

Tips While Using

  • Clear and Clear All do different things, so confirm the scope before you apply the change.
  • After removing tab stops, the original text alignment may shift, so review the layout right away.
