1. Apply Superscript

Entry path: Tools → Home → Superscript

  1. Select the text you want to format as superscript.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Open the Home tab.
  4. Tap Superscript. The icon appears as x^2^.
  5. The selected text is formatted as superscript.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The selected text appears above the normal text line.
  • Next action available: You can continue typing, editing, or saving the document.
  • No side effect: Unselected text keeps its original formatting.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no text is selected first, the formatting change may not be obvious.
  • Environment note: You need to be in an editable Writer document.

2. Apply Subscript

Entry path: Tools → Home → More options next to Superscript → Subscript

  1. Select the text you want to format as subscript.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Open the Home tab.
  4. Tap the more icon next to Superscript.
  5. Tap Subscript. The icon appears as x~2~.
  6. The selected text is formatted as subscript.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The selected text appears below the normal text line.
  • Next action available: You can continue editing formulas, chemical notation, or note content.
  • No side effect: Other body text remains unchanged.
