1. Clear formatting from the ribbon

Feature entry: Home → Clear Formatting

  1. Select the text that you want to clean up. To process the whole document, press Control + A.
  2. Click the Home tab in the top menu bar.
  3. Find the Clear Formatting button with the eraser icon.
  4. Click the button to remove font, color, paragraph, and related formatting from the selected text.

Success Criteria

  • The selected text no longer keeps its previous custom formatting.
  • You can continue typing, apply a new style, or save the document.

Tips While Using

  • Make sure text is selected before you click the command.
  • This action applies to editable text content.

2. Clear formatting from the Styles pane

Feature entry: Home → Styles area → lower-right arrow → Clear Formatting

  1. Select the text that you want to reset.
  2. Click the Home tab.
  3. Click the arrow in the lower-right corner of the Styles area.
  4. In the Styles and Formatting pane on the right, select Clear Formatting.
  5. The selected text returns to the default document style.

Success Criteria

  • The selected text no longer shows the previous custom style settings.
  • You can continue applying a different style from the pane.

Tips While Using

  • If no text is selected, select the target content again before running the command.
  • The Styles and Formatting pane must be available in the current editing view.

3. Clear formatting from the task pane

Feature entry: Task Pane → Styles and Formatting → Clear Formatting

  1. Select the text that you want to clean up.
  2. In the right-side task pane, click Styles and Formatting.
  3. Select Clear Formatting.
  4. Click to complete the action.

Success Criteria

  • The selected text returns to the document default style.
  • You can continue editing or apply a new style.

Tips While Using

  • If the task pane is hidden, open the related pane first.
  • The command affects only the currently selected text.
