1. Open Character Spacing from the right-click menu

Feature entry: Select text → Right-click → Font → Character Spacing

  1. Select the text you want to adjust.
  2. Right-click the selected text and choose Font.
  3. In the Font dialog, open the Character Spacing tab.

  • Interface result: The Font dialog opens and the Character Spacing tab is visible.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no text is selected first, the setting may apply to text you type afterward.

2. Open Character Spacing from the ribbon

Feature entry: Select text → Home → Font dialog launcher → Character Spacing

  1. Select the text you want to adjust.
  2. Click the Home tab.
  3. Click the small launcher arrow in the lower-right corner of the Font group.
  4. In the Font dialog, switch to the Character Spacing tab.
  5. Click OK after you finish the setting.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: You can enter the Character Spacing settings panel and save the change.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If text is not selected, it may seem like the setting did not take effect.

3. Adjust character spacing and scaling

Feature entry: Font dialog → Character Spacing

  1. Open the Character Spacing tab through either entry path above.
  2. Enter or choose the percentage you want in Scale.
  3. In Spacing, choose Normal, Expanded, or Condensed.
  4. If you choose Expanded or Condensed, set the related value.
  5. Click OK to apply the setting.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The selected text shows a changed width ratio or changed distance between characters.
  • Next action available: You can continue saving, printing, or making other layout adjustments.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Scale changes the width of the characters themselves, while Spacing changes the distance between characters.

4. Adjust character position and kerning

Feature entry: Font dialog → Character Spacing

  1. Open the Character Spacing tab.
  2. In Position, choose Raised or Lowered.
  3. Enter the offset value you need.
  4. To improve spacing for English letters and numbers, turn on Kerning for fonts.
  5. Click OK to review the result.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Characters move upward or downward, or mixed-language text appears more even.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the position value is too large, inline alignment may look uneven, so gradual adjustment is recommended.
